SEOP – Making life with serious illnesses easier

Registration of new clients: Monday through Friday

For existing clients: around the clock availability

By doctor's prescription and in cooperation with the basic Spitex service, SEOP covers the following tasks in the region surrounding the city of Bern

  • Instruction on how to perform and performance of specialist tasks such as:
    - Handling of port and drug pump systems
    - Administration of infusions
    - Blood transfusions
    - Administration of medication
    - Chemotherapy
  • Determining the required level of care in consultation with the client, doctor, hospital, relatives and other persons
  • Organisation and coordination of all service providers involved in nursing care.
  • Organisation of and contact to support services offered by the Swiss Cancer League (Krebsliga), voluntary aides, social services, spiritual welfare services, etc.
  • Care related to and control of complatins such as pain, nausea, fatigue, anxiety, etc.
  • Guidance and support in criseis and during the dying process.
  • Qualified counselling and support for relatives in all matters related to the illness.

 

We therefore offer you

  • The autonomy that comes from feeling more secure and informed during an illness while in one's own familiar surroundings and having access to one contact 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Continuity of qualified care both in and outside the hospital. Access to appropriate medical care at home: use of new findings, new technologies and other means for the at home treatment of symptoms such as pain, in nutrition, the treatment of wounds, nausea, vomiting and shortness of breath.
  • Access to professional support in the event of fatigue, anxiety and depression or crises caused by the illness.
  • A support network - also involving volunteers - that provides psychological, spiritual and social assistance to help those affected cope with all aspects of the illness and its repercussions.
  • Improved quality of life.
  • Dignity until the end.
  • Support while living and dying in a chosen location.

 

Extended SEOP offer

  • Qualified counselling and support provided by organisations in the health care system (nursing homes, Spitex)
  • Training and further education for employees providing basic Spitex services
  • For physicians only: prescriptions for an at-home blood transfusion, available for download (only available in German)

 

SEOP objectives

Main objective

  • To provide highly-qualified advice and treatment to cancer patients and their families at home
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation with people from the areas of medicine, nursing, psychology, social work, spiritual welfare and volunteers
  • Coexistence high-tech and high-touch

 

Other objectives

  • Competence centre for the outpatient care of cancer patients in the region of Bern
  • Transfer of specialist knowledge from oncology specialists to those offering basic Spitex services
  • Disseminate specialist knowledge on oncological nursing care to schools as well as private Spitex service organisations in Bern and the surrounding region
