History

Community nursing as a form of non-hospital based nursing has been common in Switzerland for more than a hundred years. The «Verein für Ambulante Dienste der Stadt Bern» (Outpatient Service Association of the City of Bern = SPITEX BERN) together with around 700 further community Spitex organisations forms the basis of Switzerland’s (public) community nursing services.
